Course Overview
Electricity is a powerful resource that runs the modern world—but it also poses serious hazards if not managed correctly. Every year, thousands of workplace injuries and fatalities are caused by electrical shocks, arc flashes, equipment energization, and failure to follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
The Electrical Safety & Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Awareness Course by Burraq Consulting is specifically designed to help workers, supervisors, and safety professionals understand the dangers of electricity and the essential safety procedures required to work with or around electrical equipment.
This course provides theoretical knowledge and awareness about recognizing electrical hazards, preventing incidents, and understanding how LOTO procedures protect workers from unexpected energization or startup during maintenance and servicing tasks.

Why Electrical Safety & LOTO Awareness Matters
- Electricity causes over 300 deaths and 4,000 injuries annually in workplaces worldwide.
- Arc flash explosions can reach temperatures of over 19,000°C, causing severe burns, blindness, or death.
- Failure to implement LOTO is among the top 10 OSHA violations every year.
- The majority of electrical accidents are preventable through training, awareness, and safe practices.
Whether you’re working in an industrial plant, manufacturing facility, hospital, data center, or construction site, electrical safety and LOTO awareness are critical for all personnel—not just electricians.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will:
- Recognize the dangers of electricity and their effects on the human body.
- Understand electrical hazard classifications and common workplace scenarios.
- Become familiar with arc flash, arc blast, shock, and electrocution risks.
- Learn LOTO basics – purpose, devices, responsibilities, and procedural steps.
- Identify unsafe electrical conditions and unsafe acts.
- Understand the importance of control of hazardous energy during servicing.
Who Should Attend?
This awareness-level course is ideal for:
- Electrical and non-electrical workers
- Machine operators and maintenance teams
- HSE professionals and supervisors
- Engineers and plant technicians
- Facilities management teams
- Warehouse and production personnel
- Anyone working near energized equipment
No prior electrical training is required. However, those performing hands-on maintenance should also take LOTO Hands-On Certification Training.

Module 8: The 6 Steps of Lockout/Tagout Procedure
- Preparation: Identify all energy sources
- Shutdown: Turn off the machine properly
- Isolation: Disconnect the equipment from energy sources
- Lockout/Tagout: Apply locks and tags
- Stored Energy: Dissipate any residual or stored energy
- Verification: Try to turn on the machine (test for zero energy)
Note: Only the person who applied the lock/tag is allowed to remove it.
Module 9: LOTO Do’s and Don’ts
✅ Do:
- Use only assigned locks and tags
- Communicate clearly with affected personnel
- Perform periodic inspections
- Ensure all energy sources are identified
❌ Don’t:
